School driver, his nephew and 2 others injured in road rage incident in Haryana’s Sirsa | Chandigarh News
A school bus driver sustained multiple bullet injuries and his minor nephew received pellet injuries Thursday during a clash with a group of men in an incident of road rage in a village in Haryana’s Sirsa district.
According to the Sirsa police, Sonu’s condition was critical after the incident in the afternoon, and he along with others who were injured were being treated at the Maharaja Agrasen Medical College in Agroha. The police said there were eight school students, including Sonu’s nephew, on the bus at the time of the incident.
Vikrant Bhushan, Superintendent of Police, Sirsa, said, “The news going viral on social media about gunshots being fired at the school bus is incorrect. As per the information that we received from the spot, today’s incident was a result of road rage. However, the parties involved in today’s incident also have an old enmity that could also be the reason behind today’s incident but that is yet to be verified”.
Bhushan said Sonu and Sukhchain Singh, who have an old enmity, got into an argument over giving away on the road. “Sukhchain Singh was driving a tractor. When they both were crossing through the Nagrana Thehad village of Rania, Sonu kept honking, seeking a way to overtake Sukhchain’s tractor. Apparently, when Sukhchain did not let him overtake, Sonu stopped the school bus and got out of the vehicle,” said the officer.
Sonu’s nephew, who was travelling in the bus, also got out, and entered into an altercation with Sukhchain. While arguing with each other, they stepped into the fields on the roadside. “Sukhchain’s son, who is 16 years old, also reached the spot in his car. He was carrying his grandfather’s weapon. Meanwhile, two of Sonu’s relatives also reached there. Both groups entered into a fierce clash in which gunshots were fired that hit Sonu, the pellets hit his nephew, and two others sustained sharp-edged weapon injuries in the clash. All the four injured were taken to the nearby civil hospital from where they were referred to Agroha Medical College where they are under treatment,” added Bhushan.
Bhushan said Sukhchain and his son, who escaped in a car, were chased by a police team and eventually intercepted and nabbed. “All those involved in today’s clash have been detained and are being interrogated. There could be more people involved in the clash, and it is being verified. Further investigations are on”.
The local police officer said Sukhchain and Sonu clashed with each other over a similar issue of road rage about three years ago. They reached a compromise later, added the officers.
