Ajay Devgan does a fair job as Shekhar/Arun Kumar. But he looks so young that the staleness of the project gets underlined. Anees Bazmee’s direction is alright but, quite obviously, the delay of almost two decades in the film’s release has taken its toll on the film. On the whole, Naam will prove to be a non-starter at the turnstiles because it is too stale to appeal to the viewers. Publicity: quite alright. Opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.

As I said before, considering the film is 22 years old, I enjoyed the typical Bollywood nostalgia which has typical twists and turns, which are not solid but dramatic and enjoyable. The best part of the movie is that throughout 135 minutes there was not a boring moment. It had all the elements of a commercial potboiler with a dash of action sequences, comical scenes along with emotional elements. On the whole, Naam is a treat to cinegoers, who still enjoy typical 90s & 00s Bollywood entertainers.

Despite its minor flaws, Naam manages to deliver a thoroughly entertaining experience. Anees Bazmee’s direction, coupled with stellar performances by Ajay Devgn and the supporting cast, ensures that the film doesn’t feel like a relic of the past but rather a nostalgic trip down memory lane. For fans of psychological thrillers with a blend of action, drama, and a touch of Bollywood nostalgia, Naam is worth a watch. It’s a reminder of an era when larger-than-life stories and characters ruled the screen, and for that alone, it deserves applause. Whether you’re a fan of Ajay Devgn or just looking for a film that combines suspense and sentimentality, Naam delivers.

Interestingly, this Ajay Devgn starrer action-thriller was completed in 2000 and it saw the day of the light two decades later. The same is visible in the screenplay of this movie. The screenplay isn’t smooth and fails to weave action, suspense, and drama. The film’s pacing is slow and it only picks up momentum in a nail-biting climax.

Today’s action films are slick and far more violent. Even a high level of crowd-pandering does not work at the box office. If Naam was made today, there wouldn’t even be enough audiences to boo it out of the halls. It is the kind of film that slips out of the mind in the time it takes to get home from the theatre. But Naam has time travelled from 2004, when films could have a slap-dash look and audiences were far less demanding and far more forgiving.

Ratings:2/5 Review By: Dhaval Site: Times of India
‘Naam’ feels like a dated film, with its shots and background clearly reflecting its age. In fact, it almost qualifies as a ‘period film’ due to the outdated use of a CD, the look of the Mumbai airport, and the skyline—elements that have since undergone a complete transformation. Beyond its appearance, the film suffers from a weak screenplay that fails to captivate, while the subpar editing strips away any remaining enjoyment.
