Day before her birthday, woman dies in Electric Vehicle showroom fire in Bengaluru | Bangalore News

A 26-year-old woman was killed in a massive fire which broke out at an electric vehicle showroom in North Bengaluru on Tuesday, a day before her birthday on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Priya, an accountant who worked at My EV Store for three years. Priya, a resident of Okalipuram, reportedly sought refuge in a small cabin as the fire spread, but she was unable to escape, the police said.

The fire began near Navrang Bar Junction on Dr Raj Kumar Road, and the control room received an alert at 5.36 pm. Firefighters deployed three tenders to battle the blaze until Priya’s body was recovered from the debris around 6.40 pm.

Priya’s father Arumugam said the owner of the EV showroom did not contact them. “It was her birthday on November 20. She left home after breakfast and was expected back by 7 pm. She wanted to buy new clothes for her birthday. I rushed here after a friend informed me,” he said.

Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit triggered the fire, causing batteries to explode and the blaze to spread rapidly. Of the six people who managed to escape, one suffered minor burns, while others were treated for breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.

Festive offer

The fire also destroyed more than 20 EVs inside the showroom.

Bengaluru fire department officials said their preliminary investigation revealed inadequate safety measures, including the absence of fire extinguishers. A case of death due to negligence has been registered at the Rajajinagar police station.

While Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), inspected the site, authorities said they are probing the incident.
