Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demands National Investigation Agency probe be ordered into Beldanga violence

The West Bengal BJP has demanded that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should probe the violence in Beldanga in Murshidabad district. The party has also written to the Director General of Police to allow one leader of the party to allow them to visit the affected area.

BJP MLA and leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that he had written to the police, however, he has received no response from them. He further stated that the NIA should investigate the violence in Beldanga at Murshidabad.

“I, for Bengal BJP, wrote to Bengal DG to allow one leader of the party to allow to visit Beldanga in Murshidabad. 5 MLAs have written to Bengal Chief Secretary as to how the police have not been able to control alleged communal violence during Durga Puja. We have not received any reply,” Adhikari said.

The Bengal BJP leader also stated that the West Bengal Governor should visit the place as soon as possible.

“We want CRPF in Beldanga and an NIA investigation should happen. I request the Governor of Bengal to visit Beldanga. Several shops have been closed,” said Adhikari.

He further said that the BJP has come to know about the abusive comments about the deity of a community in Beldanga and feels that Hindus are being framed.

Meanwhile, Governor CV Ananda Bose had on Monday sought an immediate report from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee detailing actions taken over incidents of violence.

The governor also criticised a section of the Kolkata Police.

“I have also earlier stated, that a part of the… I won’t say fully, a part of the Kolkata Police is criminalist, a part is politicised, a part is corrupt. This is my observation,” Bose was quoted as saying by PTI.

“And then, I cannot blame the entire police force for this. We cannot demoralise the state police. But, it should be… call a spade a spade. That is what I am trying to do as the governor,” he added.

The Governor maintained that he would continue his efforts for the welfare of the people of Bengal, upholding the Constitution.
