Music maestro, AR Rahman and his now ex-wife, Saira Banu announced divorce on November 19, 2024, sharing the reason behind their divorce as unmanageable emotional strain in their relationship. Amid this, their daughter, Raheema Rahman, posted a story on her Instagram handle, sharing a quote about enduring hardships with ease. The singer shared a story that read:
“Through every hardship, there is ease. Your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied. Verses to live by.”

AR Rahman and Saira Banu have three beautiful children together: Khatija, Raheema, and AR Ameen. The couple was married for 29 years before they announced their split. During this sensitive time, all three kids took to social media and requested that their family be given some privacy. Raheema posted a story on her Instagram handle, sharing that she would appreciate it if the matter were treated with privacy and respect.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years
On November 19, 2024, Saira Banu released a statement through her lawyer about their decision to end their marriage. The cause for the annulment was written down as significant emotional strain. The statement mentioned that despite having a deep love for each other, the couple felt that the tension had created a massive gap between them, which neither felt hard to bridge. It read:
“After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life.”
Hours later, AR Rahman also took to X and shared that he had hoped that they would be able to reach the grand thirty in their marriage. However, things have met an unseen end. He further added that even God’s throne might tremble under the weight of broken hearts. Rahman added that he finds this occurrence shattering, yet they will try to find meaning in it. He wrote:
“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
