3 more infants die in Jhansi hospital fire during treatment, toll reaches 15
The death toll in the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi has risen to 15 after three more infants succumbed during treatment on Wednesday, hospital officials said.
Dr Narendra Sengar, Dean of the medical college, confirmed the development and said that the three infants died in the span of the last 24 hours. One of these infants was the one who was reunited with his mother 36 hours after the fire incident on Friday.
The bodies of the three infants have been sent for post-mortem, Dr Sengar added.
10 of these 15 newborns had died on the day a massive fire broke out at the hospital, while five have died during treatment since Friday.
